Difference between braced and unbraced column

Column may be considered as braced, if lateral stability of the structure as a whole is provided by walls or bracing. It have zero value of sway and a column may be considered as unbraced, if lateral stability of the structure as a whole is provided by columns only. It has a value of sway.
