Fire Compartmentation

I have one problem,In our site some areas we have cable penetration without containment. Plz provide me proper detail for that types of penetration how to seal and which Engineering Jujment we can used.

Hi Mr. Verma,

Thanks for posting your query.

Without a complete compartmentation, there is no possibility of fire-stopping a system. In such a case it will be simple sealing which can be done with any sealant, such a system will not have a Fire-Rating.
In case you need Engineering Judgement you have to ensure – that compartmentation is being achieved. Engineering Judgment (EJ) is not to compensate absence of Fire Compartmentation.

Based on a proper compartmentation and providing us the details as the following we will need to identify the nearest tested system to prepare the EJ.

  1. Opening Size
  2. Penetrant
  3. Thickness of Slab/Wall
  4. Fire Rating of assembly,
